An inside report with stacked column headlines, “Billy The Kid, Heavily Ironed Engages His Guard; Watching His Chance, He Fells the Guard With The irons and Kills Him; An Absent Guard Returns From His Supper and is Likewise Slain; The “Kid” Then Release Himself and Murders Two Companions. The 10” report names the deputies, Robert Olinger and J.W. Bell, and provides the detail of the escape. It also reports that “Billy The Kid” murdered William Matthews who was a witness and Kid’s trial and had shot The Kid during the Lincoln County Wars.
