Autograph Letter Signed "George Bush," 2 p, 6.25" x 4.5" blue-bordered personal card, front and verso. Houston, Texas, September 23, 1979. To Ron Wade. With original envelope addressed by typewriter "Mr. Wade." Fine condition. In full, "Dear Ron - The first President I met was Dwight Eisenhower. I met him with my father then a U.S. Senator from Conn - a simple hand shake was all. The Congress has usurped some of the powers of the Presidency or at least cut into them - but that can be reversed. Weak Presidents have helped this trend - Sincerely George Bush" On May 1, 1979, George H.W. Bush had announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination for President. At the 1980 Republican National Convention, Ronald Reagan was nominated for President and George Bush for Vice President. They easily defeated Pres. Carter and V.P. Mondale in 1980, 489-49 electoral votes. Texan Ron Wade was appointed by President George H. W. Bush to his Presidential Inaugural Committee, was a Bush floor leader at the 1988 Republican National Convention and regional director for Bush's races in 1980, 1988 and 1992.
