War-date Confederate civilian Autograph Letter Signed “J.A. Carpenter” most likely from Rutherford County, North Carolina, 2pp. octavo, July 6, 1862, and reads in part: “...Reuben McDaniel died the first day of July he had heard that your regiment is taken by the Yanks I hope that it is not so and heard that H.D. L. was killed in the fight at Richmond. I reckon that you had heard he was killed...” Good condition. Reuben McDaniel served with the 50th North Carolina and died while in Rutherford County, NC on July 7, 1862.
