War-date Union cavalryman's letter, 2pp. 4to., written by Pvt. John C. Gibble, Co. G, 9th Penn. Cavalry, Madison Barracks, Indiana, Aug. 31, 1863, reads, in part: "I received your welcome letter and would have responded sooner, but as so happened that General John H. Morgan and his hoste of horse thieves was invaded Indiana and Ohio…I was along with the crowd that was detailed from New Albany…to capture the old Devil…they had orders to brake up the hospital in New Albany…the next day I was sent to this place…John C. Gibble." VG
