War-date Union soldier's letter, 3pp. 8vo., written, on "United We Stand" patriotic stationery, by Pvt. Harrison Gibble (Gipple in the CW database), Co. A, 79th Penn. Vols., Chattanooga, Tenn., Dec. 15, 1863, to his friend, Henry C. Gringrich, in part: "…send me one good pair of gloves. If you cant get knitted ones send me a good pair of sheep or buck skin large size…and some tobacco…I will send the money by letter. We cant get those articles here for there is no sutlers about. The weather is too cold to work…on entrenchments without gloves…we intend to make Chattanooga safe…to hold it with a small force…our men are busy fixing up the railroad to Bridgeport, but it will take several months till it is finished…the weather changes more here then the women change their mind on Sunday morning…we will demolish this whole rebel army yet…a great many in our Regt. are enlisting as Veteran soldiers, but I intend to wait a little…before I put my name down…H. Gibble…". VG
