Autograph Letter Twice Signed “M.C. Lee”, Lexington, February 14, 18866, 2pp., old 2” tape mend, else near fine. In large part, “I was much gratified with your kind letter expressing such consideration and generosity I truly appreciate it, as a tribute of affection for my husband under whom you served in the glorious Army of Northern Virginia. Were it necessary I should feel proud to accept aid from any member of that army. But as I have had all that is needful for my comfort ... I wish you much success and hope you will be able to secure good pictures. We think those of Vanneson are the best, taken during the war. You will I hope understand my true motive for declining your kind offer. Most truly and respectfully, M.C. Lee”. This followed with a PS, “I must caution you against allowing my letter to be printed as the General especially dislikes that notoriety for us or for himself. M.C. Lee”.
