Autograph Letter Signed, 1p. quarto, Army Intelligence Office, August 15, 1863, addressed to L. G. Rucker, and reads "There has been received no report of the death of J.T. Keaton [Co. I 24th Virginia Infantry] or M. Alexander Keaton [Co. I. 24th Virginia Infantry]. Is it known to what hospital either was sent? If so, we will upon being informed, endeavor to ascertain why no report has been made…" VG. Most likely an answer to a request by a distraught parent for the whereabouts of his missing sons...possibly Gettysburg related because of the date. The 24th Virginia lost 40% of its men as casualties at Gettysburg.
