HARRISON, Sr., George Paul (1813-1888) was a brigadier general in the Georgia militia from 1856-1861, commander of the 1st Brigade in the Georgia State Troops and a colonel in Georgia's First Military District in 1864-1865 during the Civil War. He was a prisoner of war for several months near the end of the war. War-date Autograph Endorsement Signed "Geo. P. Harrison Brig. Genl." 2pp. octavo, Camp Lee, January 25, 1863, being a request for leave of absence by William A. Barron, 8th Georgia Infantry, who was POW at Manassas July 21, 1861, additionally endorsed by J. Richard Lewis, KIA Gettysburg, Lt. William Henry Ross, Captain Charlton H. Way, Surgeon John J. Young, and Asst. Surgeon Smith. Fine condition.
