Revolutionary War date Newspaper "The London Chronicle" January 30, to February 1, 1777, 8pp. quarto, with great news from America pertaining to the War for Independence including the capture of Rhode Island, and reads in part: "...A ship is just arrived from Rhode Island with one hundred and twenty-six passengers, sailors, and twenty-six captains of ships, taken by the Rebels; they report, that General Clinton arrived at Rhode Island the 10th of December, with Sir Peter Parker, and all his fleet, and took quiet possession, the Rebels having fled a day or two before...the General had sent word, that if they burnt or destroyed the ships or town, they should expect no mercy; that the militia had refused to stay and defend the place, and had marched home, and only a few Regulars were left; that the country people flocked in great numbers, and submitted to the General, and said they wished for the King's troops, as they were solely oppressed by the Rebels..." Much more includes mention of Benjamin Franklin and the recapture of the 'Aurora.' Fine condition.
