War-date anti-Lincoln 1864 reelection/draft letter, 3 1/3pp. 8vo., written by a certain "Dollie", State Line City, Indiana, Nov. 13, 1864, to her friend, in small part: "…it is very cold today…Ellen is preparing to visit Mrs. Matthew Parker at Indianapolis…the people here have been considerably excited about [the] Election. They have drafted in this township once and exempted so many that now they are obliged to draft ten more. Lewis escaped the first time, but hardly think he will be so fortunate again. It seems so hard, at the present. Prices for substitutes…is dreadful and am afraid the Country is ruined forever especially if Mr. Lincoln is elected (and I don't doubt that he is) but we hadn't the results yet…Dollie." Also included is the original stamped transmittal cover. Light toning, else VG.
