A great war-date Confederate imprint of Wynne's edition of "Richardson's Virginia & North Carolina Almanac for the year of our Lord 1862", in paper wrappers, 35pp. 8vo., with wood-cut illustration of the Capitol of the Confederacy on the front cover, published by West & Johnson, Richmond, Va., printed by Charles H. Wynne. Content inside this edition include articles such as this, entitled: "The Year 1861àWhen we sent our Almanac for 1861àlittle thought we of the tremendous events which were to occur during the year. At that time, we were a peaceful, prosperous, united and happy people. Political excitement had run highàa sectional party [Republican] had succeeded in electing their candidate [Lincoln]àwe too fondly hoped that the ship of state would be able to ride the stormy seaàunder Black Republican pilotage, without being driven into the breakersàthe people of the South, justly alarmedàand accordingly, in nearly all the slaveholding Statesàwere called to consider what was necessary to be done to preserve their equality in the Unionà". Intermingled among historical events; and moon and sun phases are a listing of Confederate politicians, including their yearly salaries (Jeff Davis $25,000, VP Alexander Stephens $8,000.00 and Virginia Governor, John Letcher $5,000) along with a listing of the South's military commanders with Robert E. Lee ranked third to Generals Samuel Cooper and Joseph E. Joseph, respectfully. A great Confederate publication with advertising sprinkled throughout. Back wrapper with irregular margins and dog earring, else VG.
