COX, William Ruffin (1831/1832 - 1919) was an American soldier and politician from the state of North Carolina. He was a brigadier general in the Confederate Army during the Civil War, a three-term member of the United States House of Representatives from 1881 to 1887, and Secretary of the Senate from 1893 to 1900. War-date Confederate Autograph Letter Signed "Wm. R. Cox" 1pp. octavo, c. 1862-1864, beneath letter from R.S. Tucker to him, and reads "I have 69 acres situated on the left of the RR which I purchased...for about $10 or $11 per acre as woodlands..." Fine condition.
