SEDDON, James Alexander (1815-1880) was an American lawyer and politician who served two terms as a Representative in the U.S. Congress, as a member of the Democratic Party. He was appointed Confederate States Secretary of War by Jefferson Davis during the American Civil War. War date Letter Signed on official "Confederate States of America, War Department" letterhead, Richmond May 28, 1864, to James M. Baker, advises that he has forwarded a recommendation, "...of the detail of her son in the office of Port Commissary, submitted by you has been referred ..."
