War-date Union soldier Autograph Letter Signed by Peter Humel, 41st Pennsylvania Infantry and 43rd Light Artillery, May 10, 1862, Near Falmouth, Virginia, 3pp. octavo, on regimental letterhead with matching cover addressed to Miss Harkins of Lycoming County, Pa, and reads in part: ",...We have left Catlett Station...it took us three days to march to this place and we had some trouble on the way. We had 5 men taken by the Rebels they got in the rear of the Regiment and was taken. A guerilla band there was twelve in number hid in ambush. Three of the men was of our company...This is a splendid looking country and more niggars than you can shake a stick at and their hair is twisted so tight to their heads that they can't shut their mouths. War news is nothing special at present only that the Rebels are taking flight in all directions..." Fine condition.
