Group of four letters from Byron Charles, 46th Massachusetts Infantry, while in North Carolina, dated from January 20, 1863 through February 19, 1863, and reads in part: "...The camp is moved away from the river so the gun boats have a better sweep in case of attack. ...Infantry leaving for Wilmington...I saw a Co. of Blacks a parading around the streets here in Newbern. I guess they won't catch me in this army again if I have got to fight with them..." Fine condition.
