ROSSER, Thomas Lafayette "Tex" (1836-1910) was a Confederate major general during the American Civil War, and later a railroad construction engineer and in 1898 a brigadier general of volunteers in the United States Army during the Spanish-American War. A favorite of J.E.B. Stuart, he was noted for his daring cavalry raids, efficiency in handling combat troops, and tactical brilliance. War-date Confederate Officer's Autograph Letter Signed by Thomas Rosser to his wife, 1pp. quarto, Chancellorsville, December 2, 1863, and reads in part: "...The Yankees have gone and I have returned to this place and expect to be ordered to Freds'bg tomorrow and when I go back there I will be exceedingly obliged to you if you would come up to see me...I have been after the Yankees all day and I am completely broken down. They have gone back to the other side of the river and I hope they will remain there..." Also is the original cover, signed in the 3rd person, "Mrs. T.L. Rosser. Fine condition.
