Letter Signed by John M. Schoonmaker, Captain, 20th and 80th New York Infantry, WIA at Gettysburg on July 1, 1863, 1pp. quarto, Libby Prison, Richmond, Virginia, August 8, 1865, addressed to the Commanding Officer of the 10th Connecticut Vols, and reads in part: "...I have the honor to report that under existing orders, I am not authorized to receive enlisted men for confinement except upon sentence of Genl. Court Martial...The men now in confinement here belonging to your command will be held, however, until the expiration of their terms of imprisonment as promulgated in their respective sentences..." Fine condition.
