A war-date letter by one of General Voris' soldiers, 4pp. 8vo. written by "E. Welsh," 67th Ohio Vols., [Great Cacapon Creek, (West) Va.], April 5, 1862, to his wife concerning his duties as a wagoner and expeditions into the countryside with comrades. The original "Due 3" transmittal cover is included and endorsed, in full: "Soldiers letter. A C. Voris, Lt. Col. 67 Rg. O. V." Major General ALVIN C. VORIS (1827-1904) WIA Fort Wagner, S. C., July 18, 1863. After the war, he resumed the practice of law, was later elected to the Constitutional Assembly and served as judge of the Court of Common Pleas for Summit, Medina and Lorain counties, Ohio, retiring in 1896. Both overall VG.
