Federal Prisoner's Letter, Camp Parole, Annapolis, Md., January 6, 1863, 3pp., written and signed by George A. Spencer, with original cover addressed to Edward Spencer, Indian Orchard, Mass. In part, "I sold my Jack Knife to a reb for two dollars confed money ... Me and another fellow were taken Sunday night by 4 of Stewart's Cavalry, we see them coming and run but a fence brought us up on one side and they on the other. They took us to Stewart's headquarters. I talked to him a while about the war and tride to get him to come to terms. I asked him what he would take, he said he would take 50,000 head of niggers to do his part selling it ... Stewart then sent us to Longstreet head quarters. I did not have much to say to him ... Longstreet sent u7s to Gen. Lees Hd quarters. Lee looked at us and said, well yanks give us your names. So he took all our names and then sent us to camp and we stayed there tell we were Paroled. I lost everything I had ..."
