Field printed broadside, 1pp. octavo, "Head-quarters, Twenty-fourth Army Corps," Review Ground, Richmond, Virginia, June 13, 1865, addressed to the "Soldiers of the 24th Corps" by Major General John Gibbon, and reads in part: "...Many of you are about to re-enter civil life, to resume those domestic duties which, by your service in the Great Cause of your country, have been so neglected. Before we separate, I desire to thank you, in the name of a grateful country, for the service you have rendered her...Your badge has become an emblem of energy, valor and patriotism, and is a source of just pride to all who wear it..." Fine condition. During the Appomattox Campaign, Gibbon helped block the Confederate escape route at the Battle of Appomattox Courthouse, resulting in Gen. Lee's surrender. He was one of three commissioners for the Confederate surrender.
