Manuscript Document Signed "Charles A. Taggart" 1pp. quarto, August 22, 1890, Albany, New York, and reads in part: "...I, Charles A. Taggart do solemnly swear that I will support protect and defend the Constitution and Government of the United States...' With U.S. Pension Office stamp. Fine condition. Charles A. Taggart (1843-1938) was a Union Army soldier in the American Civil War who received the U.S. military's highest decoration, the Medal of Honor. A pencil notation "Captured Confederate flag at battle of Sailors Creek Virginia, April 6, 1865 ...." It was for this that Taggert was awarded the Medal of Honor.
