Confederate Imprint, Booklet, titled "Journal of the House of Delegates of the State of Virginia, for the Session of 1864-5" Alexander, D. Turner, 82pp., separate cover, VG. The booklet prints the 10 page "Governor's Message" by Governor Francis Harrison Pierpont. Remember this is Virginia. There are many references to slavery, such as: "... yet they also left us an inheritance of African slavery which as proved a bitter dreg in our cup of freedom.." and, "The abolition of slavery in the State has altered the condition of the colored race within our borders" ... "our statute book in regard to slaves and free negroes which clearly contravene the written laws of God" ... These views certainly were foriegn to the general Virginia government. Very rare publication.
