War-date Manuscript Document, 1pp. quarto, Head Quarters 1st Kanawha Division Flag Boat Emma Duncan, February 23, 1863, issued by Command of General Crook and Signed by John R. Craig, Capt. & A.Q.M., this special order lists the signals of various whistles for “The boats having on board the Troops of Gen. Crook’s Commands.” Fine condition. On September 7, 1862, George Crook was promoted to brigadier general, and commanded a brigade of regiments from Ohio during the Battles of South Mountain and Antietam during the Maryland Campaign. Following the campaign, George Crook was assigned to the command of the Kanawha Division which was detailed to the Army of the Cumberland in the Western Theater, where Crook fought in the Battle of Chattanooga in Tennessee and the Chickamauga Campaign.
