Small Broadside Printed On Green Cloth, 4-1/2" x 7", titled, "Anti-Slavery Bazaar", with four verses and signed only as "M". The poem was published by The Liberator (January 26, 1849, Vol. XIX. No. 4. Whole No. 942) under the following heading: "The two following poetical effusions were written for the Anti-Slavery Bazaar, In Faneuil Hall, by friends of freedom in the old world." The poem printed here makes a rousing call for continuing the abolitionist struggle. In small part, "Oh! may he speed the time when all, Their fellow-men shall brethren call, And the deep wrong remove, When the dark chains of slavery. ... Oh! it were happiness to bind, In such bright chains all human kind, And set each captive free; For when oppressions all shall cease." Retains its deep dark green color, deep black text, only minor 1/8" nick bottom margin. The National Anti-Slavery Bazaar was a large fundraising fair run by the Boston Female Anti-Slavery Society. Members crafted and sold abolitionist paraphernalia, household items, and publications to raise money for abolitionist activities, especially the American Anti-Slavery Society's newspaper, the National Anti-Slavery Standard.
