c. 1860 Civil War Period, Hand-Crafted Sewn-Silk Cockade Confederate Secessionist Badge, Mounted on an Antique Mirror for Display, Extremely Fine. Very rare, Authentic Civil War Period Confederate Secessionist Badge or Cockade, crafted of red, white and blue silk ribbon, with a central black seal and star adorned with black wire and sequins. Cockade measures approximately 4" in diameter and is carefully (improved with a small piece of velcro mounting) to the surface of an antique period mirror with black wooden frame with ornate decorative inlays, measuring to 9" x 14" overall. An engraved metal description plate is mounted to front of mirror below the badge and states, "CONFEDERATE SECESSIONIST BADGE." A handwritten notation in pen on the black rear heavy cardstock backing of display frame mirror reads, "Mirror d'td June 27, 1885" indicating it was framed at that time, as also indicated by wear to its backing. Cockades such as this were worn during the Civil War Period to show support for the Confederate cause. Ready for display.
