Pocket size "New Testament of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ" London, 1862, boards are reattached, interior VG. The money however is in the printed label pasted down to the inside front board. In full, "From the Cargo of the Anglo-Rebel Blockade Runner MINNA, Captured December 6th, 1863, Off Wilmington, By the Government Dispatch Ship CIRCASSIN, Capt. W. B. Eaton. For Sale by W.H. Piper & Co., 133 Washington St. Boston." According to the Museum of the Bible, during the Civil War, the Confederate Bible Society was established with the intent to print Bibles in the South and organize importation of Bibles and New Testaments from the British and Foreign Bible Society in England. Placed on the Anglo-Rebel blockade runner Minna, this Bible was captured on December 6, 1863, near Wilmington, North Carolina, by the USS Circassian, captained by W. B. Eaton.
