Manuscript Special Order, 8" x 10", by the command of General Johnson (misspelled on the document), datelined Head Quarters, Smithfield N.C., April 10, 1865. In small part "The organization of Sharps Brigade, Hills Division, Lees Corp will be as follows ..." It continues to detail the assignments. After three separate days (April 17, 18, and 26, 1865) of negotiations, Johnston surrendered the Army of Tennessee and all remaining Confederate forces still active in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida. It was the largest surrender of the war, totaling 89,270 soldiers.
