Lot of 2 official letters introducing Massachusetts arms manufacturer James T. Ames. Autograph Letter Signed "Chal. H. Mills", one page, quarto, June 10, 1854, Boston, Massachusetts to Representative J. Wiley Edwards, Washington, D.C. The letter reads: "I take much pleasure in introducing to your acquaintance the bearer of this, my friend Mr. James T. Ames of Chicopee whose reputation as a skillful machinist is doubtless well known to you. Mr. Ames will explain to you one of the objects he has in view in visiting Washington at this time, & so far as you can consistently promote his designs I am sure you will take pleasure in doing so." With cover, VF condition...Plus; Autograph Letter Signed "P Clayton", one page, quarto, January 8, 1858, Treasury Department, Washington, D.C. to Robert B. Campbell, U.S. Consul, London, England. The letter opens: "It gives me pleasure to introduce to your acquaintance Mr. James T. Ames of Massachusetts, who visits Europe upon business connected with the War & Navy Depts of this Government...". Although with a worn and soiled cover, the letter has only one small stain and is in VF condition.
