A strong Confederate soldier’s 2pp. letter written in pencil by A. Lee Patteson who enlisted on 3/10/1864 as a private into into "K" Co. VA 4th Cavalry, later transfeered into the 43rd Virginia Cavalry and is pictured in the “Mosby’s Rangers”. Datelined, Strawsberg, September 4, 1864, to his father. In part, “Father I am rejoiced to tell you I killed a Yank the 1st day of September. He was abouth 300 yards away from me when I shot him. I am sorry to tell you my horse is broken down and I will get a detail as soon as I can. We have cut off two divisions of Yanks, they are making me think from Staunton. We are following them up. ....”
