Partially pre-pre-printed receipt,4” x 3-3/4” headed “JOHNSON’S ISLAND, NEAR SANDUSKY, O.” March 3, 1864 signed by “Capt. W.D. Ervin” as prisoner of war and received by Brig. Genl Terry, in the amount of $20 and is also signed by Capt. Saml Truesdale. Ervin enlisted as a Captain of Co. P in the 62nd Virginia Infantry on December 3, 1862. He was captured in thge Gettysburg campaign on June 29, 1863 at McConnellsburg, Pennsylvania. He was not parolled until May 27, 1865. Brig. General Henry Terry took command of the prison January 1864.
