Confederate soldier's letter, 2pp. 8vo., written by Pvt. John B. Cochran, Co. G, 36th Georgia Infantry, "Camp near Dalton, Ga., Feb. 15, 1864" to his cousin Eliza Jane Hardman of Stone Mountain, Georgia, reading, in part: "Dear Cusin. This rainy wet morning gives me the time and leisure to rite you a few scateran remarks - ther is som talk of us moving in toward East Tennessee, but I cant say that we will - I am glad hit is a raining to day shore for we had to go on general review today. Cusin we had a very nice Valentine drawing yesterday. I got several of the girls. I drew Miss. Maraget and I am a goin to send her a Valentine. Mr. J[ohn] W. Robinson drew you, But I cant say whether he will send you one or not. Jane, I would like very well to Beat home to seed you all and then I could tell you more than I can rite. Give my Best respects to all of the family and a portion for yourself - J. B. Cochran." The original stamped transmittal cover, postmarked "Dalton, Ga. Feb. 16, 1864" and addressed: "Miss. E. J. Hardman, Stone Mountain, Georgia" is also included. Fully transcribed. Near fine.
