On the reverse of this $5 note is a hand printed, patriotic eight stanza poem written by Alroy Jonas. The poem’s closing stanza; “Keep it, it tells all our history o'er, From the birth of our dream to its last; Modest, and born of the Angel Hope, Like our hope of success, it passed.” Sidney Alroy Jonas, a native of Aberdeen, Mississippi, was editor of the "Aberdeen Examiner" before the war and served as one of General Stephen D. Lee's staff officers. He was paroled July 1865.
