Civil War Era Clipped Signature, "A. Doubleday, Maj. Genl. Vol., Sept. 9th, 1864", mounted, 3-3/4” x 1-1/2”. Doubleday was a capable general who fired the first shot in defense of Ft. Sumter at the opening of the Civil War and later served with distinction at Gettysburg.
