A great war-date official Union army document, 1p. 8vo., printed "in the field" at the "Headquarters, Tenth Army Corps, near Hatcher's Run, Va., July 25, 1864, being General Orders No. 18," reading, in part: "…the design adopted for the badge of the Corps, is the trace of a four bastioned fort…and will be worn on the top of the cap, or side of the hat, by all the officers and enlisted men of the Corps…the badge will be cut from red cloth for the 1st Division…[lists the other divisions correspondingly]…the chief Q. M. will procure…the cloth to supply the badge to divisions and stencils to cut the cloth and also mark the transportation of the Corps…By command of Major General David B. Birney…". Minor crease, else near fine.
