Treasurer of the United States. Payable in the amount of $1.57. Issued for reparations paid to under the terms of settlement of the "Alabama Claims". The Geneva Award claims which were the result of a post Civil War action by the US government against the British government for damages suffered by American merchant ships, primarily whalers, resulting from attacks by the CSS Alabama and other Confederate ships.
