Wilmot DeSaussure (1822-1886) Confederate brigadier general, present during the shelling of Fort Sumter, helped defend against the forces of William T. Sherman during his Carolinas Campaign. Document Signed "Wilmot DeSaussure", 8" x 3-1/2", as witness, December 13, 1875 "..in the One Hundredth year of American Independence". After the war, DeSaussure was an active attorney.
