Union soldier's 3pp. letter written by George S. Hill who mustered into "I" Co. CT 27th Infantry, was wounded 12/13/1862 Fredericksburg, VA., POW 5/3/1863 Chancellorsville, VA., Paroled 5/15/1863 (place not stated) and died of disease on 6/14/1863. Datelined Camp near Falmouth VA, April 7, 1863. In small part, "... if it was for the Union, I would not say any words, but it is not. It is for the cursed nxxxxrs, a white man is a slave now and the nxxxxrs play gentleman. Our captain has got a nxxxxr to wait on his ass and he gets mad at the boys sometimes and calls them sons of bitches. .. if he should call a son of a bitch there would be one less nxxxxr to fight for ..."
