SAMUEL BLODGET (1724-1807). New Hampshire Merchant and Canal builder, being an Industrialist Visionary who foresaw the need for canals to open trade from New Hampshire to the Boston and Concord, Massachusetts areas. Founder of the City of Manchester, New Hampshire. February 1, 1799-Dated Federal Period, Partially-Printed Document Signed, "Saml. Blodget" as President, of the Blodget Canal Company. A historic Stock Certificate for One Share, at Amoskeig Falls, New Hampshire, Extremely Fine. This was the earliest operational commercial infrastructure canals in America, and extended from Amoskeag Falls in New Hampshire to the Merrimac River. This Certificate for one share is boldly Signed by Samuel Blodget. Blodget was a merchant, manufacturer, and canal builder. This canal was completed in 1807 at a total cost of $50,000 after a persistent effort by Blodget which involved with special Lottery funding from both New Hampshire and Massachusetts. This form is Uncancelled, and is an important artifact of the importance of canals in the early commercial infrastructure of the United States. At the left is a paper-covered wax seal, undamaged and wholly intact. The laid period paper is boldly printed in black. Clear tape repair of about 2" on the blank reverse to reinforce centerfold tears seen at the left and right, some reverse soiling. A great item for anyone interested in early New Hampshire fiscal history, Colonial Lottery ephemera or the early commercial infrastructure canals in America while George Washington was still alive.
