Historic Color Lithograph Print titled, "The Action Between the Serapis and the Bon Homme Richard, September 23, 1779", Engraved by R. Whitechurch after a painting by James Hamilton, Jones famous for the quotation, "I have not yet begun to fight!", Framed, Extremely Fine. Impressive Colorful Print, measuring a large 21" x 32" (by sight), matted and presented in an old antique gilt painted wood frame to an overall size of 32.5" x 42.75." This historic Color Lithograph shows the intense nighttime battle between the two American Revolutionary War warships, the "Serapis" and the "Bon Homme Richard" on September 23, 1779. In this celebrated Revolutionary War Naval battle, the American Captain John Paul Jones won the battle but lost his ship. Fought in a memorable 3 1/2-hour Naval duel, the American commander John Paul Jones answered a challenge to surrender early in the battle with the famous immortal quote, "I have not yet begun to fight!" The engraved print is not examined out of its frame, yet it appears to be in excellent condition save for some marginal foxing and creases in the lower mat edge. The frame is somewhat worn, with the print seen under glass. Overall, an impressive display piece of this remarkable Revolutionary War historic naval battle.
