War-date Union soldier's letter, 4pp. 8vo., written by Pvt. Harrison D. Jewell, Co. B, 13th Maine Volunteers, on Lady Liberty patriotic stationery, Ship Island, [Miss.], March 25, 1862, in part: "- we had a hard time getting here - I was sea sick most of the time and could not eat nothing - this island is 115 miles in lengthened one mile wide - it is white sand. Looks like snow. There is 13000 soldiers on this island - it is a sight to see them out on a drill - direct your letter to 13 Maine Regt., Company B, Butler's Division, Ship Island, Mississippi. Harry Jewell." VG.
