Autograph Letter Signed by Captain "E.R. Fowler" to Captain Jenks, 2pp, Charleston SC, March 3, 1865, informing of the discovery of "a quantity of Salt formerly belonging to the State of South Carolina ...". On the reverse, are the instructions issued by Stewart L. Woodford, Col. 103 USCT, in part "This salt will be turned over to Captain E.R. Fowler & will be distributed by the Citizen's Committee...." Woodford was promoted to Colonel this very day.
