Manuscript Special Orders issued and signed by "Natt Head" (Nathaniel Head) as Adjt General. Head served as a member of the House of Representatives, Adjutant General of the New Hampshire Militia, State Senator, and the 45th governor of New Hampshire. The orders are written on printed letterhead, "General Head Quarters State of New Hampshire, Adjutant's General's Office", Concord August 19, 1864. In part "Special Orders, No. 24. Authority having been received from the War Department to raise additional Companies of Heavy Artillery. Robert L. Davis of Concord NH is hereby authorized to recruit for the 5th Company Heavy Artillery. ...More explicit information will be furnished by General Orders. By order of the Governor, Natt Heads, Adjt General".
