Pamphlet, AN ORATION UPON THE DEATH OF GENERAL WASHINGTON, DELIVERED AT THE REQUEST OF THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF NEW-YORK, ON THE 31st DAVY OF DECEMBER, 1799,” 24pp., John Furman, NYC., Extra-illustrated by seven plates. Modern three quarter morocco and marbled boards, spine gilt. A bit of light foxing. Near fine. The Frank Deering copy, with his bookplate on the front pastedown. Deering has extra-illustrated this copy by the insertion of seven plates, including two portraits of Washington, one of Martha Washington, another of Morris, and one of Morris's home. Morris's is one of the best written of the Washington eulogies: "Born to high destinies, he was fashioned for them by the hand of nature. His form was noble - his port majestic. On his front were enthroned the virtues which exalt, and those which adorn the human character. So dignified his deportment, no man could approach him but with respect - none was great in his presence. You have all seen him, and you all have felt the reverence he inspired...."
