Newspaper, “The Weekly Journal or Saturday’s Post,” 6p. folio, October 24, 1719, London, with an account of ships taken in the River of Gamboa by the Pirates , in the Year 1719, listing the vessels by name with captain and number of men on board and also notes how many of the men became pirates. The account reads in part: “...Capt. Vane, the notorious Pyrate, has surrendered himself to the Honourable Robert Johnson, Esq. Governor of Carolina. A Privateer fo the Island of Providence has taken a very rich Ship, laden with Cocoa, & c. and sent her into Carolina; but upon his OCming there, she was not arrived, which made him believe she was gone to Providence, to which Place she ought to have been carried...” VG.
