c. 1770, Miniature Portrait of a Gentleman, housed in an Ornate Gold Pendant together with an original finely weaved Lock of his Hair, Fine. Hand-Painted high quality Miniature Portrait of a middle-aged apparently wealthy Colonial Era Gentleman. He is shown wearing his high-necked white shirt and deep blue period overcoat with its brass buttons. This Portrait is housed under lightly beveled original period glass within a gold, oval frame (appears to be made of 10K fine gold, but we have not tested it), that measures 3.25” tall x 2-5/16” wide, with its integral hanger loop intact at top. The reverse side contains a sealed remembrance souvenir locket of matching hair to that shown in the Painting, beautifully arranged in the shape of a “Sheaf of Wheat” surrounded by a magnificent ornately Hand-cut original “Wreath” made of gold or gold leaf, all strategically placed in front of a Mother-of-Pearl background. The back of the gold frame shows the “Wreath” of gold surrounding the lock of hair has perhaps slightly shifted, of no consequence, yet mentioned for complete accuracy. Visually, this is one of the most impressive Miniature Portrait Pendants we have seen, obviously commissioned by a person of means and wealth. Total weight: 56.55 grams. Excellent for display and of museum quality.
