Union soldier’s 4pp letter written on exceptional regimental letter head, “Head-Quarters 49th Penna Regiment” to his cousin by William H. Greenland who on 10/19/1862 mustered into "M" Co. Pennsylvania 16th Cavalry and was Mustered Out on 8/11/1865 at Richmond, VA. Datelined: Camp Griffin, Dec. 17th 1861, in part “... had the measles and just getting so we can get up and move around a little, yet I feel very weak .. don’t think I’ll be fit for duty before New Years ... there is as many as 175 on the sick list ... there has been but three die and the typhoid fever is one of the main diseases ... Our Regt was out on scout Dec 6th ... drove the rebel pickets and chased them all to Centerville ... a counterband was brought in a few days ago. ...”
