June 15,1728. Ulster County NY. An amazing document conveying land in Rochester, Ulster County, New York, to Cornelius Hornbeck and Frederick Schoonmaker, signed by Native Americans Tateew, Ochangues, and Neckarind, with an impresion of a wax seal next to each name. It reads in part: "To all to whom these presents shall come ... we, Tateew, Ochangues, and Neckarind, inidans and the native owners and proprietors of a contain'd tract of land suitate lying and being in Rochester in the County of Ulster in the Province of New York. .. that we ... for good and valuable considerations we hereunto meeding and more and especially for an in consideration of the sum of Ten pounds current money of the Province of New York to us in hand paid by Cornelius Hornbeck and Frederick Schoonmaker both of Rochester aforesaid the receipt whereof 100 dollars by acknowledge and our seal to be therewith fully satisfied ... their heirs and assigns forever all that a certain mine now found out (now supposed to be lead oar) whether the same be coper, tin, pewter, lead, or iron oar, or whatever the land may prove to be hereafter situation lying and being within Rochester aforesaid on the South side of the land ... every part and parcel there is together with .. jts appurtenances unto the said ... ". It is also signed on the third page by Abraham Gaasbeek Chambers, Judge of the Court of Common Pleas for Ulster County, and docketed by Gil Livingston, county clerk.
