Periodical, Gentleman’s Magazine (London), February 1779, 56 pgs; Complete issue of this publication includes the the tipped-in, pullout illustration (usually not present), “The Siege of Rhode Island taken from Mr. Brindley’s House on the 25th of August 1778.” The British occupied Newport in December 1776, and a long siege to evict them culminated in August 1778 in the large but inconclusive Battle of Rhode Island, a contest which was the first combined effort of the Americans and their French allies. The British voluntarily evacuated Newport in October 1779. Additionally the complete printing of the “Teaty of Alliance” between France and the Colonies with several supporting articles, 4 pgs. Loose at spine, wear to front page, dry at edges.
