WEARE, Meshech (1713-1786) In 1754 he was a commissioner to the colonial congress at Albany, and he was afterward a justice of the supreme court, and in 1777 became chief justice. He was also a member of the executive council, and chairman of the committee of safety at the outset of the Revolution. He was elected president of the state in 1776, and was annually re-elected during the war, and in 1784 under the new constitution. Manuscript Document Signed, “Meshech Weare” 1p. folio, May 21, 1754, Hampton Falls, New Hampshire, and reads in part: “...I Joseph Worth...for Divers Good Causes & Considerations me hereunto moving Especially in Consideration of the Love and affection which I have and do Bear unto my Son Obadiah Worth of Hampton Fall aforesaid Labourer Have Given and Granted and Do by these presents fully and freely...thrity acres of land...in Hampton Falls.
