John Ledyard (1751-1789) An American explorer, Ledyard traveled around the world with Captain Cook and wrote about the adventures in "A Journal of Captain Cook's Last Voyage to the Pacific". He tried to interest Jefferson in trading otter skins to China, but failed. John Ledyard (1751-1789) DS. 8vo. 1pp. Excellent. 7 1/2" x 6" 12 March 1769. Hartford. A document signed "John Ledyard" on the back. On the front, the paper orders "The Colony of Connecticut to [pay] John Ledyard for 39 Days auditing Publick ... To 6 Days Man Horse & Expense attending the Assembly ... Pay to John Ledyard Esqr or Order Contents of the Above out of the Publick Treasury." The paper is in fine condition with a dark signature. An unusual American autograph
